Catharsis

There are seasons of happiness and droughts of despair,
one follows the other in a life thats ever so unfair,
be happy, be content and share in the mirth,
clutch at the straws of joy and pleasure before they hit the dirt,
just like actors, masks we all wear,
to hide behind the truth, protected from the unpleasant stares,
when you see a pretty face that sets your heart aflutter,
watch out for the blade that plunges like a searing knife through butter,
hate becomes a bird of prey swooping in for a kill,
ecstasy snatched away in an instant turns to loneliness waiting for a fill,
as I watch out the window through the bars of the rain,
each falling raindrop a thundering hammer on my pain..
